Woody Allen (nato Allen Stewart Konigsberg; 1 dicembre 1935) è uno sceneggiatore, regista, attore, comico, scrittore, musicista e drammaturgo statunitense. I caratteristici film di Allen, che spaziano dai drammi alle commedie sexy, lo hanno reso un importante regista americano. Si distingue anche per il suo rapido ritmo di produzione e per il suo vastissimo corpus di opere. Allen scrive e dirige i suoi film e ha anche recitato nella maggior parte di essi. Come fonte di ispirazione, Allen attinge a piene mani dalla letteratura, dalla sessualità, dalla filosofia, dalla psicologia, dall’identità ebraica e dalla storia del cinema, oltre che da numerosi altri campi di interesse. Allen ha sviluppato presto una passione per la musica ed è un celebre clarinettista jazz. Ciò che è iniziato come un’avocazione adolescenziale ha portato a regolari esibizioni pubbliche in vari piccoli locali della sua città natale, Manhattan, con occasionali apparizioni in vari festival jazz. Allen si è unito alla Preservation Hall Jazz Band e alla New Orleans Funeral Ragtime Orchestra nelle esibizioni che hanno fornito la colonna sonora della sua commedia Sleeper del 1973 e si è esibito in una rara tournée europea nel 1996, che è diventata il soggetto del documentario Wild Man Blues.
